- Firstly, the point I was making is that the Amiga is cheap for entry
- level sequencing. In that you can buy the cheapest single floppy disk
- Amiga, use a colour TV, and running somthing like Octamed or Sequencer
- One get started for about half the price of an entry level PC. You can
- upgrarde while using the system by adding a had disk, ram, monitor
- etc.
-
- However if you want a pro setup the difference in cost between a Amiga
- and PC dissapears, and if anything the Amiga is now more expensive. ie
- a 1200 plus accelerator or an A4000.
-
- The second problem is that the Amiga is now quite badly supported for
- music software, and if you want to take your masterpiece into a pro
- studio you will almost certainly have to use a PC or MAC package.
-
- The comments about the parenthood of the PC are about as valid as the
- price of fish. The PC hardware has evolved like any good computer
- system should. (How many people have Amigas with CPU, RAM addons etc,
- surely the same as a PC on steroids) The PC was most limited by it's
- OS not by the hardware architecture. Windows 95 has been a big step in
- sorting that. The old PC v Amiga argument has gone on for far too
- long, during which time the Amiga nearly died. Amiga people need to
- realize there are things a PC is better at than an Amiga and vice
- versa.
-
- In the studio I run, we have two sequencing platforms Amiga (68030,
- 8mb Ram, GVP, Multisync etc) running Bars and Pipes Pro 2.5 and
- Octamed and PC (80486 DX100,16Mb Ram) running Windows 95 and Cakewalk.
- The cost of these two machines is probably equal. Our PC is every bit
- as stable as the Amiga. The PC is however better supported and the
- interface for the Sequencing packages is better. Given the choice I
- now use the PC in preference to the Amiga. The packages available
- allow me to be more creative. That would not have been the case two
- years ago.
-
- That doesn't mean I have stopped using or promoting the Amiga, but I'm
- just a loyal softee.
